A large private steel mill in Guangxi, a modern and international enterprise with an annual capacity of 10 million tons of steel, is leading the way in sustainable steel production. The company operates two roughing mills and seven finishing stands on its 1780 hot strip mill production line, primarily producing carbon steel, specialty steels, silicon steel, and expanded steel varieties, with an annual output of 5 million tons.
As energy-saving policies in the steel industry tighten and downstream customers demand higher quality for silicon and specialty steels, the company undertook upgrades to its production lines. However, after these upgrades, challenges remained, such as high rolling forces, increased strip downgrade rates during pickling, localized high spots, and the shedding of the oxide film on work rolls.
In response to these issues, the Kerun team conducted an in-depth investigation of the production line conditions and recommended the KR-RSH Series Hot Rolling Oil. After implementation, the client saw significant improvements in three key areas:
01 Improved Strip Quality
The high-strength continuous oil film formed during the hot rolling process effectively resolved issues such as pickling degradation, localized high spots, and the shedding of oxide film on the work rolls. As a result, the surface quality of the strip was greatly improved.
02 Achieved Energy Savings and Reduced Consumption
The excellent extrusion performance of the hot rolling oil significantly reduced rolling loads. Within three months of applying the oil, the estimated power consumption for rolling had decreased by more than 15%.

03 Significant Improvement in Production Efficiency
The hot rolling oil exhibits excellent adhesion properties, forming a high-strength continuous oil film on the surface of the work rolls. This greatly extends the lifespan of the rolls. The rolling distance for the same grade of steel increased from 90 km to 120 km, effectively reducing the frequency of roll changes and grinding, thereby significantly improving production efficiency.

Before After
As the client experienced significant improvements in both strip quality and production efficiency, Kerun's prompt response, professional on-site service, and product development capabilities left a lasting impression. After two months of use, the client extended the application of Kerun's RSH Series Rolling Oil to other production lines in different workshops.
In the steel industry, Kerun is committed to the research, development, production, sales, and service of environmentally friendly, high-performance industrial fluids. We primarily provide carbon steel rolling oils (cold/hot), stainless steel rolling oils (cold/hot), bright degreasers, high-cleanliness anti-rust oils for electrostatic spraying, and eco-friendly roll grinding fluids. Currently, Kerun has supplied products and services to several large steel enterprises, supporting them in achieving "carbon emission reduction" goals.
Kerun Hot Rolling Oil Solutions
Reducing Rolling Force and Minimizing Friction Loss
1.Carefully selected boundary lubricating additives, including vegetable oils and synthetic esters.
2.Specially designed combinations of extreme pressure agents to reduce the risk of adhesion.
3.Utilization of special additives that spontaneously decompose at high temperatures to form a lubricating film.
On-line Roll Surface Modification and Hardening
1.Use of specialized roll hardening and anti-wear additives.
2.Ability to modify the roll surface at high temperatures.
3.Increased hardness of the roll surface layer.
4.Enhanced wear resistance of the rolls, reducing roll consumption and increasing steel throughput.
Chemical Protection
1.Control of the oxide film formation process on the roll surface.
2.Assisting in the formation of a dense oxide film.
3.Preventing the formation of loose or overly thick oxide films that are prone to shedding.
Cooling
1.Excellent lubrication and rapid oil-water separation capabilities.
2.Reduces frictional heat on the rolls, while quick evaporation of water helps dissipate heat.
3.Minimizes thermal shock effects on the rolls.
